U.S. carriers suffered a 19 percent drop in passenger revenue in September according to the latest data from industry trade organisation Air Transport Association of America (ATA).
The data was based on a sample group of carriers with the decline marking the 11th consecutive month in which passenger revenue has declined from the prior year.

United Airlines reported a US$57 million loss for the third quarter of the year and says that despite continued weakness was beginning to see a recovery in demand, even in premium seats.
Narrowing its result from the massive $792 million loss recorded a year earlier, United Airlines reported that revenue reached US$4.43 billion some 20.3% lower than the same three months ending September last year.

Matt Bush a human resources executive, estimates his travel budget will jump 30% in 2010.
During any other year, that might signal a business boom. But few things seem normal in a year when the travel industry has been turned upside down by companies severely cutting back.
Bush's double-digit increase will follow a 50% cut in his original 2009 budget. In 2010, he plans to log about 15 trips, up from nine this year.
