Welcome to TravelTalkRADIO!

We are moving our studio to Northern Michigan to where the Good Morning America audience voted the region the most beautiful in the USA. I have always wanted to live there and we are going to give a go starting this summer as we broadcast out of our new studio in Lake Leelanau, Michigan! If you have heard of it, you must write. In the meantime, here is Good Morning America piece on the Sleeping Bear Dunes.

Take a look at some of my photos of my trip there to celebrate Carnaval. W
ould love to have you join the party in April 2014.

The Roof Top of Africa

If you are like me you have a few travel plans on your list before you kiss this beautiful world good bye. On the top of my list is getting to the roof top of Africa, which means I want to climb Mt Kilimanjaro. At 19,000 feet, you will travel through 5 microclimates and if you chose Godlisten as your tour operator, you will be working with a solid, good and reputable company.

Godlisten's heart is one of the biggest on the mountain as he has made it possible for others with walking limitations to reach the summit. An angel on earth and a rock solid citizen. Give him a call and you too can reach the roof top of Africa

Can a native Californian make a successful transition to life in Northern Michigan?

That was the question I had to ask myself, as I pondered the opportunity to move 2400 miles away from my California up bringing to where my mother's parents and my Dad came from Belgium in the early 1900's.

A few years before I was born, they did everything they could to get out west to sunny California and out of the cold. However we were always drawn to the shores of Lake Michigan during the summer. I was brought up with the best of both worlds and in fact, I was given a special dose of love covered with music, art, the appreciation of Europe, the Mid West and my parents new surroundings in Southern California.

I spent many summers at the foot of the Sleeping Bear Dunes living large and feeling special as the California girl who flew in for the summers. I had a wonderful family history in the region, but I always had to say good bye and come home in the fall to continue my schooling. Every fall was the same scenario, I cried and carried on when I left. I was leaving a piece of my heart in this very special place.

Back in the day on the lazy shores of Lake Michigan, my grandmother ran the bar, my grandfather farmed and later owned the gas station and my parents even owned the grocery store during the depression. My uncle was the jeweler and my aunt was the manager of the bank. My cousin made sure the telephone lines were up and my father ended up building homes all throughout the county. My Uncle Art down the road had the mink farm and my Uncle Dick ran Dicks Pour House in Lake Leelanau. My cousin Dave has been mayor of Empire for so many years that he finally had to give the job to his wife (so that it didn't look like a dictatorship).

Perhaps the pain of leaving California will be eased by knowing that where I am going is truly the #1 most beautiful place in America and even if it wasn't so pretty, I have something even more very special waiting for me, my family.
