Welcome to this
week's newsletter.

This was a week of bi-coastal travel as I took off for a 54 hour trip from the west coast to New York City on Tuesday. Wednesday was an eventful day, starting with the sunshine breakfast at Tavern on the Green, sponsored by the Corinthia Hotels International.

During the breakfast, the honorees of the 2007 World Tourism Award were announced, but the actual award will be  presented in November at the World Travel Market in London. Among the honorees were Michael Stolowitzky, Alex Harris and His Excellency Akel Biltaji from Jordan. All three have been on TravelTalkRADIO many times and we congratulate their group and individual efforts in opening tourism in new markets like the former Soviet Union, Hungary, Czech Republic, Israel, Jordan, Croatia and Poland. They are truly the pioneers in modern tourism and the trickle down effect to the leisure and business traveler is significant. Opening tourism destinations takes dedication, patience and the ability to work with foreign tour operators in understanding the markets they wish to attract. It is a formidable job, one that Michael, Alex and Akel have mastered and perfected. In our midst, we also had distinguished members of the press, international tourist boards, and Tom Nutley, Chairman of Reed Travel Exhibitions who heads up 19 different exhibits each year. Ceremonies were mastered by Tony Potter, newly appointed president of Corinthia Hotels International.

After the whirlwind morning, I set out to meet with our associate, John Johnson, who is building tourism packages in the MACK area of the world. MACK is short for Montenegro, Albania Croatia and Kosovo. John has some exciting products he will continue to share with our audiences in the upcoming months. If you missed last week’s show, be sure to check out the segment with Wanda Radetti who did a tremendous job sharing her beloved Croatia and it’s offerings with us.

By the end of the afternoon, I was in a rush, running to catch a NY cab in my evening dress to the posh Ritz Carlton where a gala dinner was being hosted by the African American Institute. It was an incredibly successful evening with attendees from all over the world paying tribute to our special guest, the President of Tanzania, His Excellency
Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, who accepted the AAI African National Achievement Award on behalf of the people of Tanzania. During dinner, I had the pleasure of sitting beside the Minister of Natural Resource and Tourism for Tanzania, His Excellency Professor Jumanne A. Maghembe. As always, our conversations were filled with celebrating Tanzania and its precious people who we all agree offer the total African experience with genuine warmth and hospitality. You will have a chance to hear the Minister this week as we welcome His Honorable Maghembe to TravelTalkRADIO.

And like a very tired Cinderella, early the next morning I was back on a plane headed for the West Coast.  It was a fascinating and fruitful two days and I want to thank our PR firm, The Bradford Group, for the work they do to attract and create these kinds of world class events. My hat is off to Mira, Marge, Karen and the rest of your fine team. Thank you ladies, my dear friends and partners.

This week on TravelTalkRADIO, we are going to catch up with The Silk Route cyclists who are currently pedaling their way through the spectacular scenery of rural Kyrgyzstan. The influence of China is starting to become apparent, in the food, the dress and the population. Next stop, the legendary Silk Route city of Kashgar!! We’ll talk to Henry Gold, the leader and founder of Tour d’Afrique by satellite phone. They hope to be in Beijing by Nov 20, and we’ll see if they are still on course.

Also, we are excited to connect again with Department of Homeland Security's Special Secretary to the Private Sector, Alfonzo Martinez-Fonts Jr. Al has been a contributing member on our show for many years and I am delighted to have him join us this week. We will be talking about being prepared and how it affects your family, business and community. Also  did you know there is help if you find your name on a no fly list? Don’t miss this segment during our first hour of live broadcasting. And don’t forget, www.ready.gov is one of the best places to start your education.

Lawrence Hunt, founder and CEO of Silverjet joins us this week to talk about Silverjet’s new Dubai connection from London. With an all business class service from the East Coast to London, Silverjet is still a bit of a rookie with the launch of the Web site just one year ago and the inaugural flight just 9 months ago! Now with the delivery of a third aircraft, a new route to Dubai and a handful of awards, Silverjet is poised to become one of the darlings of the exclusively business class, long haul airlines.

And finally, we celebrate togetherness and take a closer look at the family sabbatical through the eyes of author, Elisa Bernick who wrote The Family Sabbatical Handbook, The Budget Guide to Living Abroad with Your Family. Elisa and her family leased out their home, lived without working for 18 months, and moved to a city they didn’t even know the language! Come find out more about this gutsy lady and why she says it was the best thing they ever did!

Come join us Sunday noon Eastern Time! We have much to celebrate and share.
Safe Travels!

Sandy
