Sandy broadcast this week from the NTA Conference in Reno, Nevada.

Thank you for joining us this week.

While in Reno, we hit the road running in our usual style and by the time we got back to the studio we had already created 2 solid weeks of programming!  We will be broadcasting and distributed the programming on our two radio networks for TravelTalkRADIO and our new program, BusinessTravelRADIO.

We arrived back to our studios from a memorable trip to Reno where we saw many of our old friends at the National Tour Association (NTA) and the World Religious Travel Association (WRTA) annual conferences. It is true, old friends and colleagues are golden, but new friends are like fine silver and what a better way to symbolize our meeting of so many new friends than in one of America's silver capitals, Reno, Nevada.

Studies indicate that one of the fastest growing trends in the travel and tourism industry is the formation of strategic partnerships between organizations with similar goals and members. We are finding more and more social networks are dovetailing their content and we see associations who are partnering and sharing conference floors. This week we experienced the NTA which attracted world class operators and suppliers and the WRTA did an excellent job in bringing together high level tourism officials representing countries like Cyprus, Jordan, Greece, and Palestine.

I must admit, I thought each of the interviews we were able to record was outstanding and it is difficult to choose one that was more memorable than another. From a personal point of view, the most important interview for me was with Her Excellency, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Palestine, Kouloud Daibes. We talk about the holy sites and the antiquities in Palestine. Most importantly we talk about the reality of traveling to and around Palestine in a peaceful, secure manner. If you have any interest in the Middle East and traveling to places like Bethlehem or Jericho, this interview is a must.

I want to thank the NTA, Senator Mark Begich, former Congressman Jim Santini and all our guests
who did a tremendous job in allowing us to give you the quality of programming you deserve.
All audio files are kept for your convenience and you can download these as mp3 files for ease of listening.

Our new program called BusinessTravelRADIO, is off and running as of mid-October. The program will be broadcasting each week and the archives will be available directly after the programming. The Alaskan Continent

Ron Peck, President and COO of the Alaska Tourism Industry Association

If you divvied the land mass of Alaska into two equal areas and made each of them a State, where would Texas then rank in size among all the United States? Find out the answer and why it may take you more than a week or two to explore this vast wonderland. If Texas thinks it is a nation, Alaska is practically a continent! Continued

Reno 411

Ellen Oppenheim, President and CEO of the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority

Stretching along the eastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and perched at nearly 5,000’ in altitude, Reno is a smaller, more manageable destination than Vegas. It still features plenty of casinos, humongous resorts and gigantic convention facilities but it is also a year-‘round mountain recreation paradise with Olympic skiing and world class kayaking. It also features some of the richest history in the settlement of the Wild, Wild West. Nice! Continued

Sandy with Rex Maughan, Founder,
Chairman of Forever Resorts

Last week we had an exciting conversation with John Issa, the Founder and Chairman of SuperClubs’ Breezes Resorts. We made the comment that no one knew exactly who came up with the first all inclusive vacation. One of our listeners, Elaine Chu wrote to us this week and said " Just to respond to your hypothetical question on “who invented all-inclusive vacations? I am pretty sure that as far as the educational travel market goes, Elderhostel did, back in 1975."

Elaine went on to say that she works for Exploritas who bought Elderhostel and they are less inclusive now.
