Sandy travels to Washington DC to participate in Coast Guard facilities tour and meeting with DHS Secure Borders and Open Doors Advisory Committee  . . . additonal information coming this week.

Welcome to this week’s TravelTalkMEDIA newsletter.

Great to have you with us this week and thank you for stopping by.

We are excited about this week’s program of experts and hope you can join us either by listening live on Sunday, or a great alternative is listening to our archives directly after the broadcast at your leisure.

This weeks guests! Join Sandy Dhuyvetter, Executive Producer and Host of TravelTalkRADIO, as she broadcasts from her studio in Southern California. Her line-up of guests include Colonel John Blashford-Snell, President of the Just a Drop foundation, Gary Sain, President and CEO of the Orlando/Orange County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Kina Paegert, Information Officer for the Del Mar Fairgrounds, Duane Keller, Executive Chef at the Gaylord National Resort, Jean Pierre Dansereau, Director of Sales for the Gaylord National Resort and Conference Center, Jully Bede Lymo, a park warden for the Lake Manyara National Park, and Jonathan Hinkles, UK Managing Director of Zoom Airlines. As a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Committee for Secure Borders and Open Doors, my colleagues and I were invited for a full day of touring the U.S. Coast Guard base at Integrated Support Command (ISC) in Portsmouth, Virginia, to observe demonstrations in security and meet some of the men and women who serve the United States by protecting lives and the environment in the
nation's waterways.

Arriving from Andrews Air Force Base in a HC-130J Hercules was thrilling enough to call it a day, but it got better. Once on the base we were treated to a full on demonstration (blank bullets included) of what happens when someone tries to violently enter a secured area. It was like witnessing a shoot out at the O.K. Corral - U.S. Coast Guard 2008 style of course. The short of that story is I wouldn’t try it. It's not a good idea. The Coast Guard has a reputation of being the mildest of the military but after a day of witnessing the serious side of this soldier, it is clear they are ready and able to do what it takes to save lives and protect.

Sandy and Herb Kelleher, Founder of Southwest Airlines, in the cockpit of the HC-130J Hercules en-route to Naval Station Norfolk from Andrews Air Force Base this week.

We learned many things that day and it was an amazing display of the some of the most courageous people in the world who serve the globe, rescuing lives and protecting the environment. These folks are working in conditions that put their lives at risk everyday. We simply don't hear enough about the United Stated Coast Guard, whose safety program dates back to 1838 when the U.S. Congress passed a law to provide better security for passengers on steam-propelled vessels.

The Coast Guard has been on a roll ever since, protecting lives and the environment. Next week, we will take a more in-depth look at the U.S. Coast Guard and see why this military arm of our government is due for more than 15 minutes of fame. They are American heroes that make one feel proud to say, "I am an American." Thank you to all the men and women who serve in the Coast Guard.  http://www.uscg.mil/

Have a great week and safe travels.

Sandy Dhuyvetter

TravelTalkMEDIA - What is Rich Media and/or New Media?

By Patrick Peartree, TravelTalkMEDIA's Vice President of Operations

(June 24, 2008 – San Diego, CA) – According to Sandy Dhuyvetter, Executive Producer and Host of TravelTalkMEDIA, the definitions and use of the terms new media and rich media somewhat overlap.

“In part, the term rich media describes the relatively recent development of the ability to deliver streaming audio and video over the Internet,” said Dhuyvetter. “The term rich media can also be extended to include animated graphics and interactive controls or inputs on Web pages that allow users to actively participate in what they are seeing and hearing and to have what they want, when they want it, on demand.”
