"What I like most about your show is that you exhibit a great sense of energy, an urgency and timeliness of topics at hand and indeed spontaneity.....a fine combination of elements which are so rare in the stony vineyard of journalism"

Cheers and warmest regards,

Welcome to this Week's TravelTalkMEDIA Newsletter  Feb 22, 2009
Thank you for taking the time to visit with us this week.

TravelTalkRADIO SUNDAY
Noon - 2PM Eastern Time
February 22, 2009
Glenn Haussman, Hotel Industry Expert, joins us to share his thoughts on the new Federal Stimulus Bill and what, if anything, is in it for the travel industry. We also discuss Las Vegas. Is it a decadent destination or a legitimate corporate meeting venue?

Rick Coates, Travel Writer and Co-Founder of the Chef's Challenge in Northern Michigan, joins Sandy as does Capt. Robert Hamaty, Founder of Tortuga Rum Cakes based in the Cayman Islands and, from Hawaii,  Thomas Steinmetz, Editor and Publisher of eTurboNews, talks about recent major litigation involving hotel aggregators like, Orbtiz, Expedia and Travelocity. Charles Spratley, Historian from Southern California , will tell
us about Western ghost tours, and Special Guest, Tony Posawatz, Produce Line Manager for GM’s new electric car,
the Volt, will talk about the future of transportation.

Tony is also the Co-Chair of Electric Drive Transportation Association. This is a don't miss interview! Sandy tops off the show with John Johnson, TravelTalkMEDIA's East Coast Director. Click HERE to go to program page.

This week's special guest on our new Energy2Travel segment is Tony Posawatz GM's Vehicle Line Director for the Chevrolet Volt  and he serves as the Co-Chair of Electric Drive Transportation AssociationTony's bio is impressive, and we have provided a link to his story HERE. Tony's last name is pronounced Paws-A-Watts, "just like kilowatts" and what could be more fitting for a self proclaimed "Detroit guy" who grew up loving cars and now leads GM's Volt electric vehicle project?  The future of the electric car is right now and Tony is just the man to tell us just how fast this fantastic technology will be the coming to a garage near you. You'll also learn what "range anxiety" is and why the new Chevy Volt will soothe your nerves and your pocketbook for hundreds of miles at a time.

This past week we had the opportunity to attend  the Los Angeles Times Travel Show. We were very encouraged by the numbers in attendance and even during the last few hours of the exhibit on Sunday there were still crowds at almost every booth. A great sign for all operators and agents and travelers. The values have never been better and the affordable products continue to enter the marketplace. Our friends from Japan entertained us with hand fans, smiles and the news that Japan was voted the #1 Destination in Asia by Travelers' Choice in 2008. Congratulations Japan! And the ladies assured me they intended to stay number one!

We also said hello to our friend Hamid Talebi from Iran. We last saw each other in Holland last October where he participated in the International Peace through Tourism (IIPT) forum. A month later, Hamid was instrumental in bringing the founder of IIPT, Louie D'Amore to Iran for the First International Tour Operator Convention. Hamid speaks heartfelt on behalf of the Iranian people when he warmly welcomes visitors to visit one of the world's oldest cultures and its most precious treasures.

The day after the LA show, we attended the  Africa Travel Association (ATA) dinner in Los Angeles to build awareness for the 34th Congress being held in Cairo this coming May. The Los Angeles Chapter once again showed why it is the most active chapter of ATA. Close to 100 travel agents and operators attended the dinner to welcome members to the next annual ATA annual Congress to be held in Egypt.  At the event, Egypt Air awarded a free airline ticket to attend the upcoming Congress in Cairo to one of the ATA members at the dinner. The Egyptian Tourism Authority promised as we will learn shortly about the pre and post trips offered on the Nile and on land in connection with the Congress.

We connect you with the experts in travel from Egypt and the Africa Travel Association.
