Welcome to the TravelTalkMEDIA Newsletter

Thank you for taking a look at and experiencing our programming.

For the past twelve years, we have talked to the worlds most credible authorities who represent the experts in all fields of travel and healthy lifestyle. By far the most important of these guests are the ones who are working toward ending the horrific crime of Human Trafficking. If you think you are not affected, please reconsider the data from
the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). This week on BusinessTravelRADIO we honor some of the men and women who are working to end trafficking in the travel industry.  It is educational and informative, no matter where you live.

I have just returned from the Seychelles where we celebrated Carnaval with 24 other nations.  We are preparing programming that we will sharing with you soon. In the meantime, lock in your calendars for end of April 2014 for Carnaval de Victoria in the Seychelles and look for a multi-media extravaganza in the up-coming weeks.

Happy Travels and thanks for joining us,

Sandy Dhuyvetter, Executive Producer and Host

The Republic of Seychelles comprises 115 islands occupying a land area of 455 km² and an Exclusive Economic Zone of 1.4 km² in the western Indian Ocean. It represents an archipelago of legendary beauty that extends from between 4 and 10 degrees south of the equator and which lies between 480km and 1,600km from the east coast of Africa. Of these 115 islands, 41 constitute the oldest mid-oceanic granite islands on earth while a further 74 form the low-lying coral atolls and reef islands of the Outer Islands.

The granitic islands of the Seychelles archipelago cluster around the main island of Mahé, home to the international airport and the capital, Victoria, and its satellites Praslin and La Digue. Together, these Inner Islands form the cultural and economic hub of the nation and contain the majority of Seychelles’ tourism facilities as well as its most stunning beaches.

Carnaval de Victoria Seychelles

Sandy and Thomas were part of an International journalist delegation to the Seychelles covering Carnaval last week. Take a listen as they have some fun talking about this Garden of Eden in the Indian Ocean. A well kept secret to many North Americans, Seychelles is worthy of the far reaching trip off the east shores of Africa. A paradise where every  photograph looks like a calendar picture and where every photographer knows they have captured something special.

Thomas and Sandy have traveled to many countries together covering meetings and events throughout the years but they agree, the Seychelles Carnaval celebration was a party at its best. Many news agencies who participated, predict this will someday be one of the world's most important Carnaval. Start making plans for next year April of 2014 for the 4th Edition of Seychelles Carnaval!

River Cruising Continues to Build Momentum
Vantage creates and markets its own Deluxe journeys exclusively to mature individuals and groups throughout North America. Sandy will be joining Deluxe Worldwide River Voyages in March to celebrate the new ships being launched in Europe. These cruises feature Vantage's own fleet of river ships as well as privately chartered small ships that ply the waterways of Europe and beyond.

Vantage Deluxe World Travel has escorted more than 450,000 mature travelers around the world. By negotiating directly with hotels, ship owners, and other travel partners and then selling our tours directly to the traveler, we can save our customers 20%–30% in travel agent commissions.

Industry Leaders taking a Stand on Human Trafficking

Perhaps there is no other person in our industry who is taking such a stand on stopping Human Trafficking than Marilyn Carlson Nelson, who is the Chairman of the board of her families company, Carlson. Marilyn has earned the title of matriarch of the travel industry working to promote travel and tourism throughout the world.

Her leadership has single handedly brought other leading companies like Sabre Holdings to sign the important called The Code, where individual companies promise to help bring about awareness of the crimes and help train others to become proactive in stopping this horrific crime.

During the ITMI Symposium in Albuquerque, ITMI signed the Code while Marilyn Carlson Nelson looked on with much pride. Sandy invited Marilyn Carlson Nelson and Ted Bravos to the show to discuss their companies intentions to be part of the solution of stopping Human Trafficking.

Ending Child Prostitution in our Life Time

Can the travel and tour industry make a difference in eliminating Child Prostitution and trafficking around the world? Carol Smolenski has bet the past 22 years that it can. Carol has been one of the strongest proponents to stop child trafficking through the organization she co-founded in the US called ECPAT.

The sexual exploitation of children is a serious problem in the world and in the United States there are nearly 300,000 children at risk. Since 1991, ECPAT-USA has led the charge to protect three types of children:

  • - Children who are sexually exploited by Americans who travel abroad;

  • - Children who are trafficked to the United States from other countries; and

  • -  American children who are trafficked and exploited within the USA.

  • ECPAT is all regions of the world. Please look and see how you can make a difference.
