Welcome to TravelTalkRADIO!

We are in the midst of doing some pretty exciting things here at TravelTalkMEDIA and will be announcing some amazing additions and news in just a couple of weeks. So, please enjoy this week's 'best of' program.

In the meantime I am also preparing two Human Trafficking Awareness Training sessions for ITMI this coming week and the gov't of Ukraine between June 8 - 12.

The opportunity to be surrounded by the experts in travel and healthy lifestyle for the past 19 years have allowed me a very special view of our industry. Each week I get hundreds of requests to be a part of our programming. At the end of each day, I am reminded that our industry is volatile, resilient and ultimately indestructible. The surviving organizations have found a place where they can thrive within the multi layers of travel and there is no slow down in the number of passionate entrepreneurs who see a vision for themselves within the travel industry.

We hear from new and old organizations who want to announce alliances, Aps, software,
resorts, tours, gizmos and more. It is a sea of opportunity for the creative and there is no doubt that visibility is the new form of currency. As we fish from this sea of news and trending stories, we are committed to bring you options that are relevant and forward thinking. Our Sponsors and supporters are the backbone of our messaging and we carefully chose each other before we recommend any of their offerings. We have refused to do campaigns with companies who do not share our goals in regards to equality, safety, and excellence in delivery.

Please kick the tires of our sponsors and see if they be of assistance to you! http://www.traveltalkmedia.com/sponsors.html

Sandy returns from Kyoto, Japan today after spending a holiday with her son, Eric who is living in Kyoto.

SEGMENTS 2 - 6  Donald Buyze, WWI Researcher throughout Flanders Fields in Belgium and France

WWI Research Becomes an Important Story Telling Moment.

I learned about Donald Buyze from his nephew Jürgen Deleye who I met in London at World Travel Market last November. He was working at the Belgian pavillion at the “Passchendaele Memorial Museum 1917”exhibit. Because of my personal interest in WWI and what happened in Beligum, we spent many conversations via phone discussing his findings. There were times when I found myself mourning for my family, their neighbors and their countrymen.

Donald described what we would call today modern day slavery, and the fate of Belgian workers who were forced by the Germans to work for them during WWI.

This work was situated on the German side of Belgian, the French frontline and also in Germany within in the industries of war and in agriculture. Most of these workers refused to work for the enemy because this was contrary to international law. The result was that the accosting army treated them horribly. Some died already within three months after their deportation (mostly at the end of 1916).

Many of Donald's fellow-historians find his research unique because of his personal searches at the historical sites which are everywhere in Northern France, Belgium and Germany.

For an example of Donald's work, he has photographed and studied all of the Belgian war memorials at every little village.  He has also photographed thousands of headstones of Belgian forced into labor and or killed by starvation in Northern France and Germany. This list has become known as the "killing list" that proves the historic relevance of the fate of this forced labour is much bigger than one has
repported so far.

I would like to preface this article by saying that my father's family home was occupied by German soldiers during WWI for almost 2 years. He was 12 when they war broke out in 1914. I have had the opportunity to sit at my Dad's knee and listen to many of the stories about the young German soldiers who stayed and passed through his home. Yet, never did my Dad ever talk ill of thes young men. He only had compassion for their age and the courage for being so far from their own homes. In 1919, a year after the war ended, my father said good bye to his Mother and Father and set out for America at the age of 17.
